Fuel Economy and Performance

The Subaru Ascent 2020, 2021, and 2022 models all get 21 MPG in the city and around 27 MPG on the highway. These numbers are good for Subaru’s largest vehicle.

It’s especially great considering that it comes with an all-wheel drive. Drive the new ascent and realize it’s a comfortable ride. The Subaru handles like a smaller car with its accurate steering.

It also has excellent road grip, and its 260-horsepower four-cylinder engine accounts for its powerful acceleration.

Safety features and ratings

The 2021 Subaru Ascent was named Top Safety Pick by the IIHS for its safety technologies and crash test ratings.

Subaru’s newest model comes equipped with many advanced safety features such as the following.

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control with lane-centering
  • Lane departure warning
  • Auto high beams
  • Rearview camera

On the premium trim, the infotainment system can upgrade to 8-inches. Additionally, two more USB ports are added to the third row, and a Wi-Fi hotspot is available.

Top models of the Subaru Ascent also include a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. Other available features include keyless entry, remote start, and tri-zone automatic climate control.

Cargo Space

Cargo space in the new Subaru Ascent is nice and spacious. The interior space of the vehicle is comparable to the Toyota Highlander. The ascent boasts three rows that can comfortably seat eight people.

Outside of its standard setup, the second-row bench seat can be swapped for two bucket seats. While the bucket seats are the more comfortable option, it lowers the capacity to seven people.

Keep in mind, the third row can get cramped if you are traveling with adults. There are 31.7 inches of legroom behind the second row. On average, this is fine for short trips.

The third row and second rows also fold down for plenty of space in the back for groceries, small furniture, and more. When both are folded down, you get a total of 86.5 cubic feet. There is also storage under the cargo floor.
